I have done quite a few kitchens with 42 uppers never a problem. What is the standard size of kitchen cabinet doors. If we did not have the full height pantry cabinet we would have dropped the uppers by an inch or slightly more to allow for a flat molding at the top. This filler can be scribed to fit the contours of the ceiling after the cabinets are installed. But be warned the extra space does come with a few caveats.

Our ceiling is relatively level but we will still need to disguise the gap in a couple places. Standard cabinets could go all the way to the ceiling by adding crown molding and trim in the gap between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling.
